Mosaic panels: 12″ x 11.75″ (30.5 x 30 cm)
Commissioned by the Town of Sackville.
A monument hand carved out of Wallace sandstone by Scott Harris. The carving details the dates of the immigration of the Yorkshire Settlers to Sackville in the 1770s, as well as inserts of the Yorkshire Rose (is iconic to the Yorkshire people) and a two-masted brigantine ship similar to those used to transport the immigrants.
Incorporated into the structure are two glass mosaic panels made of vitreous glass created by Janet. One panel depicts a typical Yorkshire Barn with doors opening on opposite sides, representing the important agricultural contributions made by the settlers. The other panel depicts a rendering of what the early Methodist church was thought to have looked like. The Yorkshire settlers brought Methodism to this area.
This public sculpture is situated in the Retention Pond Park in Sackville, NB.
