How to purchase a CD,
and a sad tale about marketing music
The other day someone asked if I was working on a new music project. Sadly, I had to explain that—thanks to streaming services owned by big tech—indie musicians don’t make much money any more. It’s hard to consider recording new material when there is no compensation for the effort, time, and expenses of recording.
For consumers, the opportunity to access unlimited music for a small monthly fee is a dream come true. Unfortunately, the musicians, songwriters, and artists are left out.
For example, more than 500 users streamed my songs over the last few weeks. The compensation for that is a whopping 47¢. In the last five years my music has been streamed thousands of times; I was paid $63.
Good studio musicians deserve to be paid for their work. Good studio engineers need to be paid for their expertise and equipment. I’m very pleased that my music has found an audience online, but the music has been provided for next to nothing.
So, not much chance of a new project. But, being the eternal optimist, I still dream of one day venturing back into the sweetness of the studio to create more music with amazing, like-minded musicians.
The good news?
Distribution the old-fashioned way is available for these four projects. Contact me to purchase a CD or, if you prefer, a USB stick with high-quality music files and PDF liner notes.
